Substance Abuse Professional Services

The fundamental responsibility of a Substance Abuse Professional (SAP) is to provide a comprehensive face-to-face assessment and clinical evaluation to determine what level of assistance the employee needs in resolving problems associated with alcohol use or prohibited drug use. A SAP recommends a course of education and/or treatment with which the employee must demonstrate successful compliance prior to returning to duty.Treatment recommendations can include, but are not limited to: In-patien treatment, partial in-patient treatment, out-patient treatment, education programs and after care. Education recommendations can include, but are not limited to: bona fide drug and alcohol education courses, self-help groups, and community lectures. 

gene counseling photGene' Henderson is a qualified Substance Abuse Professional who has knowledge of and clinical experience in the diagnosis and treatment of alcohol and controlled substance use and related disorders. She conducts a SAP evaluation which is comprised of a standard psychosocial history, and in-depth drug and alcohol use history (with information regarding onset, duration, frequency and amount of use;  substance(s) of use and choice, emotional and physical characteristics of use, associated health, work, family, personal and interpersonal problems); and, a current mental status.  Following the evaluation, a referral of the employee to the appropriate treatment program is made.  Every attempt is made to make referrals in collaboration the current medical/behavioral health provider for the company.  Consideration will be given to other stipulations, such as the employee’s insurance coverage, their ability to pay for care, company policies regarding availability of leave for employees needing assistance, and availability of treatment and education programs.  A written evaluation is given to the employer with a diagnosis, treatment recommendations, and a treatment plan to be successfully complied with prior to the employee becoming eligible to return to work.
